Burning Leaves focus on the topic of forest fires, either though natural causes or by fault of Humanity’s carelessness. The Bassoon begins with a shrieking pitch bend that represents the
distress of the plants that may be engulfed in flames. This motive returns frequently in the piece. The middle section is fast paced, giving the music a frantic expression. We then return to the beginning idea, where we conclude with the same shrieking wailing from the beginning. This represents the final yells of pain from the burning leaves.
